While in college my father saw a concert at the Duck in Greencastle Indiana (its probably not there anymore, the Duck that is, i’m sure Indiana is still there). The show was by Jerry Jeff Walker. This would have been 1970 or 71. At that show JJW played the song “Stoney”. During that performance of that song, my dad decided that he wanted to be a songwriter, which ultimately led to him dropping out of college to play 5 nights a week at a local Holliday Inn for about $175 a week (not bad in 1970 or even 71). This ultimately led to him deciding that he needed to move to Nashville to be a songwriter. I was born a few years later, toured around with him as a kid and saw the lifestyle first hand from birth. Which ultimately led me to becoming a musician and all the choices therein. So I wonder where I’d be if Jerry Jeff Walker had not played that song that night? Can a song really wield that much power over someone? What if he had decided last minute to scratch it off the setlist because he was tired or running out of time or too drunk or whatever??? Would I be part of my family’s law practice now instead? (thats assuming a lot I know). It just makes me think. I wonder if anyone has ever heard one of my songs and thought, “I want to be a songwriter”? most likely they thought, “I don’t want to be a songwriter”.
The track “Stoney” appears on JJW’s “Bein Free”

More to come soon
I spent the last week without my laptop. Damn it was annoying. I didn’t realize how much I use it. Every thirty minutes or so, i’d go to get it out of my bag, and then remember it was in the shop. I almost missed out on a smoking deal for a really sweet vintage string synth on craigslist….Whew!!! Thank god I had my smart phone….
I can only liken it to being at a restaurant when “the big one” hits and then realizing that there is no more toilet paper. What to do now?? Its not the end of the world, but its pretty damn annoying.
new band coming soon.
Johnny Freedom and the IRAQnaphobias.
sample lyric:

“I don’t know why you exist.
you just seem to prevent anything from happening”

hoping to get funding from the GOP real soon.
we are already Carl Rove’s favorite band
I miss your bridges, I miss the way everybody feels so alive when the sun first shines in March, I miss your overwhelmingly good locally brewed IPA’s, I miss the way adults act like children (Mt. Tabor soapbox derby), I miss how creative everyone is, I miss the energy, I miss the darkness and the excuse to drink heavily for 9 months out of the year, I miss your herb, I miss the coast and the mountains, I miss how green everything is, I miss how “buy local” isn’t a fad but a way of life, I miss the food, I miss the parks, I miss the awesome public transportation, I miss Alberta, Mississippi, Clinton, St. Johns, Hawthorne., I miss the infectiously cool music scene….
I don’t really miss the rain….
**title stolen from a Sweet Eastern Saint song**
every single group of two or more people in this coffee shop is talking about the music business. The room is alive with anticipation. They all think that success is just around the corner. You can hear it in the way they talk about their “friend who works at Sony”, or the writing session they just had with “The guy that wrote that hit song for Reba”. I guess thats the beauty of Nashville. Success really is just around the corner. Unfortunately, for most of us in this room, its not going to happen, or at least the way we thought it would. I guess thats the depressing side of this town…What do we do if it doesn’t work. We can’t all get jobs at Guitar Center or in advertising, or as servers or bartenders. But for at least one of us, it will probably work out. And thats why thousands more will move here this year in hopes of “making it”. A 1-30,000 chance isn’t that bad really.
This is our website. We are still working on it, but one day very soon it will contain all pertinent information concerning FOBM. Thanks for visiting, please take some time to listen to the new EP and let us know what you think.
